Finding Cheap Junk Car Parts at a Junk Yard
Finding Cheap Parts at a Junkyard
Are you in need of a cheap car part (or three) for your vehicle? Maybe you recently took your car in for some routine maintenance, and next thing you know you’re looking at an estimate for a huge (and totally unexpected) vehicle repair. If so, one of the best ways to cut down on the cost of the repair is by acquiring a used part for your vehicle, rather than paying full price for a new one.
Of course, it may not always make sense to repair your car — even if you find a cheap part. In some cases, it may be more cost effective in the long run to simply sell your junk car for cash. If you’re wondering how to find a cheap part for your vehicle, though, you’ve come to the right place. In many different cities in Connecticut you can sell your junk car or junk car parts for cash.
Finding Parts at Your Local Junkyard
While it’s sometimes possible to find discounted auto parts online, nothing beats the rock bottom prices of the local junkyard. If you’re willing to take the time to comb through a scrap yard for parts, you can find some amazing deals. How exactly does this work, though? What’s the best way to go about it?
Junkyard Types
As it turns out, there are actually a couple of options when it comes to finding parts at a junkyard. The difference mostly comes down to the way that the junkyard itself actually operates.
On the one hand, many junkyards are what we call “you-pick junkyards.” When entering this type of junkyard, you generally check in at the front desk. Sometimes you’ll have to pay a small fee to enter the yard; other times, this isn’t required. When you enter the junkyard itself, things are going to look like utter chaos. On occasion, someone at the front desk might be able to explain to you how the yard is laid out. More often than not, though, there isn’t any rhyme or reason to it. It’s then up to you to venture out into the junkyard and find what you need.
The alternative to this type of junkyard is the “full-service” variety. Here, you’ll simply ask someone at the front desk if they have a particular part available. If so, you can pay for it and be on your way. Sometimes, they’ll point you to a particular car somewhere in the junkyard that contains your part, and you’ll have to go retrieve it yourself.
Save Cash With Junkyard Parts
The you-pick junkyard variety tends to offer significantly less expensive parts than what you’ll find at a full-service junkyard. That said, though, it’s important to arrive prepared. Be sure to bring a toolbox with you so that you can retrieve the part you need. Protective gear is important, too: bring mechanic’s gloves and goggles, and be sure to wear clothing suited to the task.
