What Happens to My Junk Car After I Sell It?
Your car is important to you, even once it has reached the end of its life. So you are probably curious as to what happens to your steel baby after you sell it to us. While not all junk car buyers are the same, we can guarantee making the most of your junker and being as environmentally conscious as we can.
What happens to the metal?
The majority of your car is metal, and thankfully this is the easiest part to deal with! The vehicle frame will be stripped from the car and resold. Most of the car is made up of steel, which can be reshaped into countless other objects. Your old junker could end up as anything from a household appliance such as a toaster to a steel beam holding up a new skyscraper.
The value of the metal depends on the going price of scrap metal at the time, so be sure to sync your sale up with a boom market to get the best price for your car.
What about the parts?
Many of the parts of your car can be salvaged and resold to people looking to fix their vehicles. Often the battery, transmission, stereo, and more could be resold. Some companies will then sell those parts to auto shops or amateur car junkies. If the parts are too worn down to be used, they will also be melted down for the metal or plastic.
If you feel comfortable with dismantling a car, selling parts yourself could gain you a higher profit.
Where do my seats, interior, and tires go?
There are a lot of parts to a car that are harder to break down, such as the upholstery on the seats, the plastic of the interior, or the rubber tires. These can be reused in a variety of ways, but often require professional recycling plants to do the work. Though it doesn’t look it, much of the seats and interior are often made of plastic, which can be melted down and reused.
Anything else?
The last part of the car that has to be disposed of is the fluids in the vehicle. From gasoline to brake fluid to transmission oil, there are a lot of noxious liquids that need to be dealt with. At Junk Car Traders, we siphon off these fluids before dealing with any of the parts listed above. Engine oil can be cleaned and reused, as can freon and antifreeze. Unfortunately, some of these fluids cannot be reused, so we dispose of them in a safe, responsible way.
At Junk Car Traders, we deal with junk cars every day and know the smartest and most efficient way to responsibly dismantle your junk car. So don’t worry about your junker, it’s in safe hands with us.
