Should I sell my junk car or repair it?

If the cost of repairing your junk car is more than the value of your car, you are better off selling it. But how can you determine the value of your car? First off, check the Kelley Blue Book value of your car. That can give you a baseline valuation. If there is damage to the car, you likely should also subtract that from the KBB value to get the true value. If this number is lower than the cost of your repairs, sell it. You’re better off taking that money and buying a newer car. 

Should I sell my junk car to a junkyard or a private buyer?

Neither! Selling to private buyers can be difficult — there are a lot of scammers or people who just won’t follow through. Selling to a junkyard is fine if that is all you have in the area, but often junkyards will low ball you, since they are not car experts. What documents do I need to sell my junk car?

Title, registration, and license. The most important one is the title, and a sale can usually be completed with just the title, but if you have the car’s registration and your license it will be easier. If you are missing any of these documents, you’ll need to contact your local DMV to get a new copy.
